TFAW Hosts Art Opening

On Friday, June 24th, Things From Another World’s Hollywood location will be hosting an art show and book preview with local artist Paul Guinan and writer Anina Bennett. The art show features a selection of prints and a display of rare toys and artifacts from the pair’s book, Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel. This book, a fictional “historical,” tells the story of a mechanical man/prototype soldier, built during the 1890s and follows his adventures through World War I. The work has not only received the Emperor Norton Award, it has also been recently optioned by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost, Fringe).

To add to the evening, the event will also include a sneak preview of artwork from Paul and Anina’s upcoming book, Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention. The intriguing concept of the book promises to be the chronicle of a family of steampunk inventors. As a feature of this exhibit, Paul will present the first public showing of the elaborate model he built of “Valiant”, Frank Reade’s electric battle wagon.

All this and you get to meet Paul and Anina, who will be TFAW’s special guests at this year’s SDCC without the long drive. The event kicks off at 7pm and runs until 10pm. There will be copies of Boilerplate will be available for purchase and signing. Also, you are invited to view an extraordinary collection of pieces while enjoying complimentary food, beer, and wine (with valid ID).

Hope to see you there!
