F**K! Hum-Bug!: THE HOLIDAY Variety show SPECTACULAR!

Join PDXYAR for our very last event of the year as we particpate in F**K! Hum-Bug!: THE HOLIDAY Variety show SPECTACULAR!.

What is this show you ask? Let’s just say it is celebrating the season with an utter lack of the gentility found around your archetypal family dinner table. While your family gathering may require a certain level of, often painful, decorum you can join us at the Someday Lounge to become one with your baser side. We’re talking bucket loads of profanity, nudity, (choreographed) fights and more.

Besides PDXYAR, as well as a performance from PDXYAR’s own “Broadsides,” you can look forward to a host of other entertainments including:

Burlesque
Drag Queens
Live music from the Bridge City Underground
Megan Spear from Jared Mees and the Grown Children
Delaney and Paris
The Morals
performances from local pottymouths: Doc Luben, Johnny No Bueno and others
Plus much more.

Head over to the Facebook invite for this invite, get more info and make your mark as attending!

When: Friday, December 23rd
Time: 9pm- 12am
Cost: $5
Where: Someday Lounge
125 NW 5th, Portland, OR 97209

Seafair Pirates Landing

This weekend when Seattle’s Seafair Pirates land at Alki Beach PDXYAR will be there. With the events kicking off at 9:30 this Saturday, the pirates are scheduled to storm the beach between 11:30 and 12:30pm (seriously, did you expect pirates to get up earlier than that?) and mark the official opening of the Seafair Season

PDXYAR will be a part of the street fair again this year. Visit with us at our booth and engage us over a piratical game or two. Besides the Liar’s Dice, this weekend will mark the return of the Epic Scale Pirates game! Of course, you can always expect the possibility of a spontaneous shanty or maybe even random sword fight. We will be there from around 9:30 (or as soon as the Captain manages to shake the crew loose from the racks) and will be there until they kick us out.

Getting there:

Can’t Make It?

Now, we certainly understand if you are not able to follow us up to Seattle for the day, but if you can’t that leaves you no excuses! This weekend also marks the premiere of Trek in the Park. Don’t miss, “Mirror, Mirror,” or the bad, bearded Spock will know…

TFAW Hosts Art Opening

On Friday, June 24th, Things From Another World’s Hollywood location will be hosting an art show and book preview with local artist Paul Guinan and writer Anina Bennett. The art show features a selection of prints and a display of rare toys and artifacts from the pair’s book, Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel. This book, a fictional “historical,” tells the story of a mechanical man/prototype soldier, built during the 1890s and follows his adventures through World War I. The work has not only received the Emperor Norton Award, it has also been recently optioned by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, Lost, Fringe).

To add to the evening, the event will also include a sneak preview of artwork from Paul and Anina’s upcoming book, Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention. The intriguing concept of the book promises to be the chronicle of a family of steampunk inventors. As a feature of this exhibit, Paul will present the first public showing of the elaborate model he built of “Valiant”, Frank Reade’s electric battle wagon.

All this and you get to meet Paul and Anina, who will be TFAW’s special guests at this year’s SDCC without the long drive. The event kicks off at 7pm and runs until 10pm. There will be copies of Boilerplate will be available for purchase and signing. Also, you are invited to view an extraordinary collection of pieces while enjoying complimentary food, beer, and wine (with valid ID).

Hope to see you there!
